Whether sunk on purpose as an artificial reef or the result of mishap, wrecks open fascinating windows to the past. The lure of exploring sunken vessels, airplanes and automobiles is something most scuba divers can't resist. Most divers find wrecked ships, airplanes and even automobiles nearly irresistible because they’re intriguing to explore, exciting avenues of discovery, and usually teeming with aquatic life.
The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty course gives you the opportunity visiting wrecks, unlocking mysteries and starting to gain the knowledge and experience that allows you to see things that others overlook. Sometimes, only the trained, experienced eye recognizes that a small hole or open door likely caused the vessel’s demise.
The PADI Wreck Specialty course introduces divers to wreck diving with limited wreck penetration and line-laying with specialist equipment. Divers are taught the fundamental principles of planning and executing safe and enjoyable wreck dives. With the emphasis on safety, your PADI Instructor will help you to learn several methods of wreck navigation, along with propulsion and buoyancy techniques to avoid the hazards of silt in an overhead environment
The course consists of knowledge development and 4 open water dives which will cover:
The planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of wreck diving
The preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines and reels
Limited visibility diving techniques and emergency procedures
Knowledge Development is based on a self-study method, allowing you to study in your own time, at your own pace. Home study is backed up by an academic session with a PADI Instructor, to ensure full understanding of wreck diving theory.
Open Water Dives
Students will complete 4 Open Water dives in the Mediterranean on the Costa Blanca under the supervision of your PADI Instructor to certify as a PADI Wreck Diver. During these dives you will navigate and map a wreck identifying hazards, points of interest & potential penetration points. Prior to planning and executing an actual penetration dive you will practice line deployment/retrieval, finning techniques and correct line contact.
